Loans for blacklisted and bad credit borrowers
Start with the fact most 'blacklisted loans' websites hide: there is no blacklist in South Africa. Credit bureaus such as TransUnion, Experian and XDS hold both positive and negative information about how you have paid, and lenders read that record and your affordability together. A default, a judgment or an account in arrears makes you a higher risk, but it does not put you on a list that bans you from credit.
What a poor record does do is narrow your options and raise your price. The big banks usually decline impaired records; some registered non-bank and short-term lenders will lend smaller amounts if the affordability assessment passes. This page explains what your record contains, which listings fall away and when, which lenders on our list consider impaired records, and the warning signs of a lender that is not registered at all.

Matching services: one form, several lenders

What is on your credit record, and for how long
Your record shows your accounts, how you have paid them, enquiries by lenders, and adverse listings such as defaults, judgments and debt-review flags. The National Credit Act regulations limit how long each stays: adverse enforcement listings for a year or two, judgments for five years or until rescinded, paid-up defaults that must be removed once settled. You are entitled to one free credit report a year from each bureau — pull it before you apply, because a lender will.
Which lenders consider a poor record
Short-term lenders and some instalment lenders consider impaired records at lower amounts, because the loan is small and short. Banks and long-term lenders mostly do not. No registered lender can grant credit without an affordability assessment, so 'approval guaranteed' is not something a legal lender can promise. In the table below, lenders are ranked by our score; the ones that state on their own site that they consider impaired records are marked as such once we have verified it.
The warning signs of an unregistered lender
An upfront fee to 'release' the loan. Contact only through WhatsApp or a Gmail address. No NCRCP number, or one that does not appear on the NCR register. A demand for your bank card and PIN, or for your SASSA card, as security. Any of these means walking away: unregistered lenders (mashonisas) are outside the Act, and you have no recourse when the terms change.
Improving your record while you borrow
Paying a small short-term loan on time is recorded and helps, and repeat lenders raise limits for it. Settling a paid-up default gets it removed. If several accounts are in arrears, debt review restructures them but also blocks new credit until you receive a clearance certificate, so it is a decision, not a quick fix.

Questions people ask
›Am I blacklisted?
No one is. Your credit record may contain adverse listings that make lenders decline you, but there is no blacklist. You can get a free copy of your record from each bureau once a year.
›Can I get a loan with a judgment against me?
It is difficult. Some short-term lenders will consider a small loan if the affordability assessment passes; most banks will not. Rescinding a paid judgment removes it from your record.
›Are 'loans for blacklisted, no credit check' adverts legal?
A registered lender cannot skip the affordability assessment, which includes a credit check. Adverts promising otherwise usually come from unregistered lenders or lead resellers.
›How long does a default stay on my record?
Adverse listings are time-limited by regulation and a paid-up default must be removed once settled; judgments stay for five years unless rescinded earlier.
