What we do
We compare credit from lenders registered with the National Credit Regulator and explain what the National Credit Act allows them to charge. We are not a lender, we do not process applications, and we do not give financial advice. When you click through to a lender, you deal with the lender directly.
How the lists are ordered, and how the stars work
We only list companies we have a partner agreement with, and the order of our lists is set by us with those agreements in mind — a company higher up is not necessarily better. The star rating is the honest part: each company is scored out of five on transparency, cost, speed and flexibility, the scores are ours, and no company can pay to change them. Read the stars, not the position.
Lenders versus matching services
Some of the companies people apply through are not lenders at all: they collect one application and pass it to a panel of credit providers for a referral fee. We list them because they can be useful, but always in their own section, always labelled 'not a lender', and always with the operator named — several are run from outside South Africa. The affordability assessment, the quotation and the agreement come from the lender they forward you to.
What we verify
The registered legal name and NCRCP number against the NCR's public register. Amounts, terms and payout times against the lender's own site. Rate examples only from the lender's site or its own advertising, with the source recorded. Anything we have not verified is shown as 'see lender terms'.
